The (or "A", depending on how you interpret these things) Warrior of Light, Dread Thunderstorm spent more time than he cares to admit on the streets of Ul'dah as a thief, petty criminal, and gangbanger to survive. The Calamity had stripped him of everything, so his attitude was that he had every right to take what he needed to survive. Being huge helped; his size and bulk went miles towards intimidation and efficacy in a knife-fight, and so he made his living in this fashion easily enough for five years or so.
Then one day, almost out of the blue, he realized he'd been wasting his life something fierce. He dropped his old gang, his street name, and his knife and bought passage on the first ship he could find towards Limsa Lominsa, a city where pirates could go legitimate and so could he. Eager to both put his past behind and prove he could make his way with his mind instead of his brawn, he enrolled in the Arcanist Guild.
Story quests and guild quests are as standard progression for the Warrior of Light.
Dread also has basic skill in all classes, and extensive proficiency as a ninja and monk, in addition to being a level 60 Summoner.
Of particular note in his history is his run-in with a fellow Summoner named Sarangerel Dalamiq. He met the girl when she casually flirted with him in Limsa one day; neither of them expected it would turn into a whirlwind romance culminating in their formal joining, but it certainly DID. The two mean the world to each other, and make each other quite fiercely happy.
Dread is generally the quiet sort, more inclined to quiet nods and ominous looming than any dramatic takes. Having seen and lived through a great deal, he generally has a lot of patience and tolerance for any number of oddities or even the occasional burst of harmless idiocy. Not quick to smile, or anger, Dread often remains an even keel in situations where others are alarmed.
A lot of this has to do with his size. Being almost seven and a half feet tall and built with muscles like steel cables, Dread easily learned how to use his size to intimidate -- and has since has a more difficult time in learning NOT to do that.
Nevertheless, there are some things that can get Dread worked up -- he tolerates injustice and cruelty poorly.
