World Information: Wiki

Personal History:

Thanks to the Calamity, Dread lost his parents and wound up homeless in Ul'dah, where he turned to petty crime and gangbanging to keep himself going. Thanks to his immense size and bulk, he proved very good at this by way of being too intimidating to resist, and for several years he allowed himself to live comfortably if brutishly this way without any aspirations past filling his belly on the morrow.

Then, one day, he woke up and really thought about what he was doing. In that moment, enlightenment struck; he realized he was wasting his life and accomplishing nothing at all. In that moment, he put his life of crime and assumed name behind him, got the heck out of Ul'dah, and caught a ship to Limsa Lominsa to enroll as an arcanist and make something of himself.

A Realm Reborn
Heavensward

Dread had, until this point, continued to study arcanism, and then the lost art of Summoning. He absolutely shunned fighting physically, associating that with the past he was trying to leave behind. But around this time, he encountered Widargelt Beake, who was taking on students to try to revive the study of martial arts. Training as a Monk immediately resonated deeply with him; the skill and discipline involved made it both appealing and impossible to relapse into thuggish ways. At this point, Dread took up that path and never looked back.

Around this time, Dread also met another summoner by the name of Sarangerel Dalamiq, whose shameless flirtation with him ended up plunging them into a whirlwind romance. From this day on, Dread and Sara took on the challenges of the world together, side-by-side.

Personality:

Just as you'd expect from his size, Dread is mostly the silent type; when he does speak, it's with a low and rather imposing tone that generally stays calm. By the same note, most of his reactions tends to be fairly self-contained, emphasizing his great care to watch out for others and the environment. At his size, that's a trick he learned young and only reinforced daily most all his life.

That doesn't mean he himself is subdued, though. Dread is a fairly passionate person at heart, easy to anger or please or frustrate or delight. When negative emotions rise to the fore, though, Dread generally moves to deal with them in some way -- or swallow them down and move on. Either way, he rarely dwells on such things, being more interested in moving forward. When delighted, on the other hand, he allows himself cheer and even an energetic little display if it's particularly good. Whatever the case, Dread's emotions are generally not subtle. He tends to wear them rather openly.

Driving him onwards through everything Eorzea throws at him is a simple and straightforward desire to help out. Dread takes the very reasonable viewpoint that if he can do something, there's no reason he shouldn't and every reason he should. Of course, this attitude has gotten him into fights with primals, empires, magitek monstrosities, and all sorts of beasts and nightmares, but when it comes down to it he refuses to let all that bother him. Being irritated about it doesn't make those things all go away, right? Sure, he'd like a break, but it isn't anyone's fault he can't get one. That's why, when Fordola demanded to know how he kept standing and kept fighting despite every single thing he'd been through, his answer was simple: "Because I choose to." (Of course, he's developed a singularly snarky sense of humor about this mess, as well. He once commented that he was going to kill someone's god if he had to, but probably also even if he didn't...)_

Outside of doom and death circumstances, Dread is generally a pretty happy guy. He has friends and a wonderful wife, he has plenty to do to keep himself occupied, and he gets to go to sleep each night knowing that he's made a difference.

Key themes: Choice. Dread's adventures all boil down to the fact that he chooses to embark on them, and so long as he remembers that nothing can really break him or get him down too badly.

Main Motivation: He just genuinely wants to do what he can to make things better.

Skills:

As a monk, Dread is a skilled martial artist, capable of a blur of fists and feet to put down opponents. Most of his skills are standard MMO ones, in the form of "do damage, do more damage, do a debuff, do a self-buff"; details can be found here.

Dread also has some training in the mechanist, summoner, and dragoon jobs, though is not nearly so good at any of them as he is Monk.

He is also pretty good at harvesting plants or mining stone and ore, and has a decent foundation in making all sorts of things.

And then there's the Echo...
